Vol. 2 No. 2 (2022): Impacts of Electronic Systems on Healthcare Promotion in Low- and Middle-Income Country Settings: A Scoping Review
Abstract
Information technology enhances the delivery of health services with
solutions that broadly support clinical care interventions. Despite the rapid
growth in the usage of health information technology among health
stakeholders, diverse electronic health platforms are adopted to promote
access to electronic health information. This growth thus interlinks
technologies and health services delivered for supportive healthcare
improvement in low- and middle-income countries. However, available e-
Health technologies have never been standardised from one area of use to
another within local communities. This study uses scoping review
techniques by involving similar publications in the field of information
technology utilisation to deliver healthcare. The study focuses on LMICs
where access to health services through technology faces challenges in
meeting its targets. The study review included searches of studies from
sources such as PubMed publication library systems, Google Scholar, and
Rayyan review tools. The analysis of publications used detailed inclusion
and exclusion criteria during the searching process after identifying source publications, screening, assessing, and selecting the relevant articles involved. This study's findings are divided into several categories. Some of these include the role and contributions of electronic health (e-Health) systems to public health, e-Health system success factors, e-Health system barriers to healthcare promotion, and areas to improve healthcare services using e-Health systems. Facilitators like user adaptability, efficiency, patient satisfaction, and interactive healthcare information technology platforms were associated with effective solutions toward meeting the targets. The findings from these reviews will help and guide primary and secondary care facilities in low- and middle-income countries in delivering e-Health services. As a result, healthcare stakeholders should embrace e-Health systems towards improving healthcare delivery with effective cost.
