Vol. 2 No. 2 (2022): The Business Process Reengineering Strategic Framework to Shape the Future Growth of Local Contractors in Tanzania
Abstract
The construction industry is believed to be one of the engines of socioeconomic growth in Tanzania. The growth of any construction industry is predicted to be concurrent with the growth of construction firms. However, many firms have attained unstable growth, posing an interest in undertaking the study to examine the causes, associated challenges, and the way forward for firms‘ future business growth. This study intends to establish a holistic business reengineering strategic
framework to shape the future business growth of small- to mediumsized
local contractors in Tanzania. A simple random sampling technique was used to administer questionnaires and capture information. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences-Analysis of a Moment Structures software was used for data analysis and model generation. The findings identified five potential strategic features, including capacity building, resources, effective organisational strategies, value processes, and technology growth, essentially for Small-Medium Local Contractors’ future business growth. It was concluded that for effective reengineering, firms should be capacitated, review their strategies, ensure effective resource availability and utilization, opt for only value added processes, and opt for and abide by new technology. Furthermore, the government should give a priority to Small-Medium Local Contractors on national construction projects to help it gain more experience and increase its market share. However, the government should enforce laws and regulations, especially on joint venture projects with overseas firms in most construction projects.
